Krillion Game Wiki: Rules, Modes and Mechanics
This is a fan-written reference for Krillion, arranged as short entries you can jump between. It covers how the game works, what each mode is for and the small mechanics that decide your score. We describe the game as it presents itself in its own menus and FAQ; where we have not been able to confirm a detail, we say so instead of guessing. For the day's answers, go to the home page.
What Krillion is
Krillion is a daily answer game played in the browser. Each prompt asks you to name something from a category, and the twist is the scoring: answers that most players give are worth little, while answers that few players think of are worth a lot. The whole game is framed as a dive into the ocean, with rare answers taking you deeper. Its own tagline sums up the goal: see how far down you can go.
The daily dive
The main mode is the daily dive: seven prompts a day, the same seven for every player. Because the set is shared, results are comparable between friends and a daily answer page like ours makes sense. Expect a short timer on each prompt, so recall speed matters as much as knowledge. When the seven prompts are done, the game shows how deep your dive went.
Prompts
A prompt is a category with many valid answers, from words and pop culture to sport and places. The best prompts have a long tail: a few answers everyone knows and a deep list that only enthusiasts reach. Reading the exact wording matters, because a small qualifier in the prompt can rule out the answer that first comes to mind.
Rarity tiers
Accepted answers are sorted into six tiers by how familiar they are. Tier 1 holds the answers almost everyone gives; tier 6, labelled one in a krillion, is the rarest reward for the prompt. Each tier carries a point value, and your total decides your depth. The scoring guide lists the tiers with their points and works through a complete day.
Too clever
The game's FAQ uses the phrase too clever for the go-to "obscure" answer that turns out not to be obscure at all. It is the pick people make on purpose to show off, and because so many people have the same idea, it lands well below the depth its reputation suggests.
The krillion gem
At the very top of a prompt sits the krillion gem. According to the FAQ, beyond a certain depth that answer is chosen for how satisfying it is to land on, not by rarity alone. So the top answer often comes with a small surprise or story, which is why our day pages include a short note under each answer table.
Where the answer lists come from
The FAQ explains that answer sets are assembled from sources such as dictionaries, wiki pages and encyclopedias, which are merged and cleaned. Rarity is worked out per prompt: some prompts are scored against a familiarity database, and others use language-model help followed by a manual pass. Rarity therefore tracks general familiarity, not how hard an answer felt to you.
Answer matching and typos
You do not need perfect spelling. The game checks guesses against aliases, the alternative names an answer is known by, and it allows small slips, so a guess a letter or two away from an alias can still match. The flip side is that an odd near miss can occasionally match an alias you did not intend. If a result surprises you, that is a likely reason.
Missing answers
No list is complete. The FAQ acknowledges that a valid answer can be missing when a source was not included, and describes making that rare as ongoing work. If you are sure an answer is valid and it was rejected, the game lists contact addresses in its FAQ. On our pages, a missing answer usually just means we show a representative set per tier rather than every entry.
Unlimited mode
Beyond the daily seven, the menu offers an Unlimited mode, marked with an infinity sign, for playing on after the daily dive is done. Since it is not one shared set of prompts per day, there is no single answer key for it. Our unlimited guide explains how to use it as practice.
The archive
The game's menu includes an Archive entry for past days. Separately, our own answer archive indexes every day we have covered, so you can check the tiers for a day you played late or missed.
Themed packs
Themed packs are topic-specific runs, each made of 30 rounds. At the time of writing the pack page lists Words and Language (marked as a free beta), Movies, Sports and Geography, with Music shown as coming soon. Packs are a good way to practise one area in depth; our geography page has strategy for the place-based one.
Friends, My Krillion and Puzzle Party
The menu also includes Friends, a My Krillion area for your own profile, and an entry called Puzzle Party. Because the daily dive is identical for everyone, comparing depths with friends is a natural part of the game. We have not covered Puzzle Party in detail yet.
Ads and unlocks
Krillion offers unlocks, and the FAQ notes that any unlock removes ads across the whole site. Linking a Google account carries a purchase over to your other devices. What exactly each unlock includes can change, so check the in-game menu for the current details.
Who makes Krillion
The FAQ states that Krillion is made by a single developer who goes by kp, and it warns about impostors and a copycat clone. If you want the game itself, use the address you trust and be careful with look-alike sites. Krillion Cheats is a separate fan resource and has no connection to the developer.
What is planned
The FAQ mentions plans for an app, multiplayer and a party game, plus more themed packs once answer curation and rarity selection have been refined. We will update this wiki as those features arrive. Meanwhile, the hints page covers the latest daily prompts.
